thoughts & Thanks
When I lift a camera to my eye, I look beyond how the foreground and background converse together, beyond the way the colour palette informs the overall scene and even beyond the way the light bathes my subjects face. I'm looking beyond these things so that I am open and prepared to see the light that comes from within the brave people in front of my lens.
I am grateful for those that have invited me into their world and have trusted me to share their most cherished stories and record their significant moments. As a photographer and cinematographer, I have captured a mother trying to hold back her tears as she watches her daughter who is minutes away from walking down the aisle. I have photographed a wedding anniversary where a couple has celebrated 50 years of marriage together. I have taken some of the very last pictures of a mother and her children together before being separated by death. I've been there when a couple has welcomed a cherished new member into their family. I've had the opportunity to share in many sacred, joyful and even hilarious moments. I am honoured to be able to capture so many milestones in the lives of my clients.
I'm a Cardston, Alberta, Canada based photographer/cinematographer. I was born in Lethbridge, Alberta. Growing up, I loved to play sports and had an affinity for art. Shortly after graduating from high school, I spent two years in Switzerland and France as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Because of my experience in Europe, I am somewhat of a francophile. I love french art, french lettering/typography and french culture in general.
After returning home from Europe, I studied at MacEwan University and the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In 2004, I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, with a major in painting and drawing. After graduation I worked with the Art and Artifact Collection with Museums and Collections Services at the U of Alberta. In 2006, I received an Alberta Foundation for the Arts Grant to paint Alberta landscapes. I have worked as an educator with the forward-thinking organization Learning Through the Arts as their Media Arts Coordinator for Alberta. In 2009, I received a Bachelor of Design Degree from the U of A in visual communications design with a minor in business/marketing. During my design degree, I was encouraged by my photography professor, Tina Chang, to pursue photography.
I live in Cardston with my enchanting wife Justine and my four little offspring.
